IQOO 7 Legend Review

IQOO 7 Legend Review

The gaming brand iQOO brought its 7 series flagships outside China. During an event in India, the iQOO 7 and iQOO 7 Legend went official, and as expected they are not quite what the naming might make you believe.

The global iQOO 7 actually corresponds to the iQOO Neo5, with vertical camera setup and a Snapdragon 870 chipset. The Chinese iQOO 7 is actually going to be known as iQOO 7 Legend overseas and it comes with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and design developed in partnership with BMW M Motorsport.

One glance at the iQoo 7 Legend and it makes quite an impression. The unique colour combination (inspired by BMW's racecars) not only looks good, but also feels premium with a well-polished metal frame and a matte glass back. The 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display combined with the well-optimised Funtouch OS ensures a fluid software experience. Gaming is handled well with excellent heat management. No matter which camera you choose, the image quality is quite good. This includes the wide-angle camera, which doubles up as the macro camera and shoots close-ups with excellent detail. Surprisingly, it's the ultra-wide angle camera that underperforms in low-light shooting conditions. With a relatively small 4,000mAh battery, the iQoo 7 Legend never lasted beyond a day, but with a 66W charging adapter in the box, charging speed was jaw-dropping, going from 0-100 per cent in just 31 minutes.

Vivo is about to launch its most powerful smartphone yet - the Vivo iQOO 7 Legend. Powered by the Snapdragon 888 and other great specs, the device is supposed to offer great value to the users. Speaking more of which, we are likely to see a 120Hz AMOLED display, a huge 4000mAh battery, great cameras, and a lot more with a beautiful design on top.

Camera:
IQOO 7 Legend has three cameras at the back, including a 48MP Sony IMX598 sensor, a 13MP wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view and a monochrome sensor with a 2x optical zoom. The primary shooter can take good daylight shots with accurate colour reproduction and high dynamic range. The exposure is also on point. The images captured using the 48MP mode offered better details and clarity.
The smartphone can quickly lock focus on a subject and can offer beautiful images for Instagram. The device also shines when it comes to ultra-wide-angle shots. It can offer a very wide field of view with almost same level of colour contrast, sharpness, and zero barrel distortion, which is impressive. However, I also noticed a bit of perspective distortion.

Display & Design:

The iQOO 7 Legend comes with a no-nonsense design and solid build quality. The BMW Motorsport-inspired three-stripe livery with a white paint job, metallic frame and matte glass look gorgeous. The phone stands out compared to what we usually see in the market.

The rectangle rear camera module does not bulge too much, which is nice as most phones these days have a big camera bump. But, the device is not as thin and heavy at 165 grams. The frame is a bit curvy, though the metallic finish and chiselled edges help offer a better grip.

The textured volume and power button offer a “clicky” response, but both of them are on the right side of the frame, which makes it a bit difficult

Battery & Performace:

The Vivo iQOO 7 Legend will allegedly be baked with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset coupled with an Adreno 660 GPU. The device will come assembled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage capacity, which sadly cannot be expanded. Fuelling the device is likely to be a huge 4000mAh Li-ion battery with flash charging support on board.

Software and Connectivety :

Vivo iQOO 7 Legend is said to run Funtouch OS UI on top of Android 11 out of the box. In terms of connectivity options, the smartphone supports 5G, dual sim VoLTE(Nano + Nano)Wi-Fi 802.11, ax/b/g/n, GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2. On top of that, the smartphone will also probably pack in a USB Type-C port and an on-screen fingerprint sensor.
